Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Transport: Safely transport patients to and from hospitals, care homes, and other medical facilities. Ensure that patients are comfortable, secure, and supported throughout the journey.
• Assistance with Mobility: Assist patients with limited mobility, including helping them move from their homes to the ambulance and vice versa. Use mobility aids such as stretchers, wheelchairs, or walking frames as needed.
• Patient Care: Monitor and provide basic care to patients during transport, including attending to their comfort and well-being. Respond to any non-emergency medical needs during the journey, such as providing reassurance or basic first aid.
• Vehicle Operation: Operate the ambulance in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to road safety regulations and the policies of the contracting organisation. Ensure that the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and stocked with necessary equipment.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring that all parties are informed about the patient's condition and any specific needs during transport.
• Documentation: Accurately document all patient interactions, including pickup and drop-off times, observations made during the journey, and any care provided. Ensure that records are maintained in compliance with legal and medical standards.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and paramedics, to ensure seamless patient care and handover.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety protocols, including infection control procedures, to protect yourself, patients, and colleagues from potential hazards.

• Education: Basic education with a focus on health and social care is desirable. Completion of an Ambulance Care Assistant training program is an advantage.
• Certification: A valid First Aid at Work certification or equivalent is beneficial.
• Experience: Previous experience in a patient care role, particularly in a healthcare or transport setting, is preferred.
• Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare practices and patient care.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, such as lifting and moving patients.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Safe driving skills and knowledge of road safety regulations.

• Work Environment: Work involves traveling to various locations and transporting patients in a range of conditions, including homes, care facilities, and hospitals.
• The role may require irregular hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the contracting organization.

• Driving License: A valid UK driving license is required, with a clean driving record. Some contracts may require a C1 category license.
• Background Check: You will be subject to a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check as part of the contracting process.
• Health and Fitness: Must meet the necessary health and fitness requirements to perform the role safely and effectively.
